We are the home of youth roller derby in  Greater Vancouver, since 2016.

Ages 6-18 and all skill levels: from never-skated-before beginner to junior national team members.

Why Derby?
Hear from VJRD skaters about how much they love Derby!

Do I have to know how to skate?

No! We have a program called Fresh Skates which will support you in learning how to skate.

When and where are the practices?

For the Spring session (April – June), practices are held at Trout Lake Community Centre  on Tuesdays, 5 – 7pm  &  Saturdays, 9 – 11am

For the Fall and Winter sessions (September – March), practices are held at Britannia Community Centre on Sundays, 9 – 11am.

Do I have to commit now or can I come check out a practice first?

You are totally welcome to come to a practice to watch and see what derby is all about. If you want to come try out a skate with us, you’ll need insurance (see below for info about insurance). The first lesson for new skaters is off-skates, though, so you wouldn’t need insurance for that.

What equipment would I need in order to participate?

This is the REQUIRED gear for all skaters:

  • skates (roller derby skates are ideal)
  • helmet
  • wrist guards, elbow guards, knee guards, mouth guard
  • hip protectors are optional

Many of our skaters purchase gear at  Roller Girl in Vancouver.

How do I get insured?

If you decide to commit, we will provide you with a link to our insurance company: WFTDi. You’ll be able to follow the instructions there and get signed up.

Do I need a roller derby name?

You don’t need one, but derby names can be pretty cool! Lots of skaters take some aspect of their personal lives (interests, favourite foods, culture, etc.) and create a name out of that.

How much does it cost to join?

Our current per term fee is $150. One calendar year contains three terms. (Sept – Dec; Jan – Mar; Apr – June). We can offer financial support for those who want to play but for whom the fees are prohibitive.
